What You’ll Do

Pour a generous amount of red paint onto a shallow container or plate. For independent painters, allow students to use a paintbrush to coat their entire hand. For younger children, gently guide their hand through the paint, ensuring complete coverage of the palm and fingers.

Carefully position the child’s hand, fingers spread wide, onto the cardstock paper. Apply gentle pressure to create a clear red handprint, forming the foundation of the apple. Allow ample drying time for the red paint layer.

Once the red paint is completely dry, use green markers or crayons to draw a small stem emerging from the top center of the handprint. From the stem, add a curved line representing the apple leaf.

Variations:

Enhance the apple with adorable seeds  Draw several small circles or dots within the red handprint area using brown markers or crayons. Or, use black paint to make fingerprint seeds!

Apple Books for Preschoolers

Looking for some apple-icious inspiration for story time? Here are a few delightful children’s books that celebrate apples:

Aimed at toddlers and preschoolers, Hello, World! How Do Apples Grow? uses clear language and cheerful illustrations to introduce the fascinating journey of an apple. The book follows an apple seed as it transforms into a sapling, then a tree that bursts with colorful flowers, and finally, into the crisp, delicious apples we all love.

From a tiny seed to a juicy treat, Apples explores the fascinating world of this favorite fall fruit. Vivid illustrations showcase the apple’s journey, from blossoming trees and careful harvesting to the many delicious ways we enjoy apples all year round.

A wacky competition unfolds in Dr. Seuss’s Ten Apples Up on Top! Three animal friends, a lion, a dog, and a tiger, see who can balance the most apples on their heads. As the apple count increases, their balancing acts become increasingly silly, culminating in a hilarious (and slightly messy) conclusion.

Fall is a season brimming with vibrant colors, crisp air, and of course, delicious apples! We hope this collection of apple-themed activities has sparked your creativity and provided a bushel of fun ways to celebrate fall with your preschoolers.
