Summer Ten Frame Counting Worksheets
Number recognition and counting are integral parts of a preschool and kindergarten math program.
The more practice kids get with these skills, the more fluent they’ll be as they begin learning more challenging math skills throughout the years.
What is a ten frame?
A ten frame is a rectangular math grid made up of two rows of five blocks designed to help children learn to make ten.
These grids can be stacked to build larger numbers, as well. Realizing that numbers can be grouped for counting is a skill that is built upon year after year as kids learn to add and subtract and more.
Preparing the worksheets
To prepare the summer ten frame worksheets, simply print and laminate the pages. If you don’t have a laminator, you can slip them in a dry erase pocket.
Playdough won’t stick to laminated pages. Also, kids can use dry erase markers to trace the number and number word if you’d like. Then, you can wipe the pages clean and use them over and over again.

How to Use the Ten Frame Worksheets
Decide which number(s) to work with in each setting. Pull those pages out, and set the others aside.
Gather playdough, bingo chips, or mini pom poms to fill in the ten frame. Use playdough, markers, or crayons (on pages that aren’t laminated) to trace/build the numeral and number word.
Have your little one identify the numeral in the top left corner of the page. They can trace that numeral with a dry erase marker or build it with playdough.
Then, have them count the objects in the set of images in the top right corner of the page. To work on one-to-one correspondence, your child can cover each object with a bingo chip or pom pom as they count them aloud.

Now, it’s time to fill in the ten (or twenty frames). Have your child place one playdough ball (or other small counter) in each box on the grid to represent the featured number.
Finally, have them “read” the number word at the bottom of the page. It doesn’t matter if they can actually read the word. If not, you are planting seeds for later.
You can talk about the letters that make up the word (for a little extra letter recognition practice) and have your child trace the word with a marker, if you’d like.
